The country has an eclectic mix of attractions for sure but perhaps a large part of the appeal is that all are within easy reach. All the scenic splendour and wide ranging outdoor activities at Loch Lomond are just an hour from the heart of Glasgow, Scotlands largest city; itself just an hour from the capital Edinburgh. Similarly, all the attractions of the coast, from rugged cliffs to beautiful beaches are never far away wherever you are in the country. There are excellent Scotland guest houses found throughout and they have long been the flag bearers of Scottish hospitality and accommodation.

Scotland is a haven for outdoor activities and it is the incredible unspoilt landscapes which define the country to many visitors. Containing the highest mountain in the UK, and a great many more, it is unsurprising that mountain climbing, hill walking, mountain biking and skiing are particular popular but the landscape plays host to many more activities such as horse riding, country sports, and off-road driving. Then there are the coastal areas, lochs and rivers which provide opportunities for fishing, sailing and many other water sports. Outdoor activity centres are common with many Scotland guest houses nearby. The most stark rural beauty is found within the Highlands and Islands of Scotland and a great way to explore the Islands is by ferry, with island hopping tours available. If the west coast and Grampian regions offer the most dramatic scenery, then the beautiful rolling hills and lush green landscape of Perthshire and Speyside provide the counterpoint. There are less active ways to enjoy the visual splendour of the Scottish landscape; a vista punctuated by ancient historical sites and many castles, each with a story to tell of the history, culture and importance of the nation.

A popular way to enjoy the views in Scotland is by indulging in some golf. There are of course many world class golf courses in a country regarded as the home of the sport and the courses occupy some of the most beautiful locations, from Troon in the west to St. Andrews in the east. Whisky trails are also popular and as well as giving an interesting insight into Scotlands national drink and most famous export, they allow visitors to see some of the smaller towns and rural locations which feature the most famous distilleries. Scotland guest houses, wherever they are located, will have all the local visitor information at hand.

Scotland city breaks present a different side of the country, one which is no less attractive than its rural adventures. Edinburgh is famous for its architecture, the castle and the world class arts scene which culminates in the Edinburgh International Festival each year. Glasgow, on the other hand, is for shopping, and a great array of pubs and clubs. Glasgow also has many wonderful parks, museums and galleries, all of which are free.

Scotland guest houses are the most popular form of accommodation for visitors for a variety of reasons. They offer comfortable, well appointed accommodation, are convenient for all the attractions and activities, and offer a local flavour and knowledge which can be invaluable in getting the most from any visit to this remarkable country.
